Origin Coffee Shops – Euston Road
Hart Miller Design have been working with Origin Coffee for close to a decade translating a bold visual style into a series of distinctive experiences, we’ve conceived unique individual destinations in diverse settings. Blending close consultation with fresh ideas to capture the heartfelt care, precision and craft that Origin pours into every cup.
We have created 6 unique café settings for Origin Coffee Roasters to date, 4 of which have been in London alongside a number of pop-up and exhibition projects.
As one of the UK’s leading coffee roasters a lot was riding on the opening of an initial flagship training, workshop and café space in 2015 with the opening of Charlotte Road, Shoreditch.
Since then further expansion has included two sites at the British Library, a pocket shop at the converted Aircraft Factory, Hammersmith and most recently a new and expanded flagship – Scoresby Street in Southwark. Southwark now houses their office, education and training space, technical workshop and a 34 seater café.
Our role and aim for each project is to communicate the distinctive speciality essence of the brand and stand out in a very crowded market. At the same time, we balance creating atmospheric, inviting environments with meeting their operational needs and business goals – from customer journey to service efficiency – providing the backdrop for a first class coffee shop experience.
We talk closely with Origin’s team, from their Head of Coffee to tech managers plus commercial, finance and branding teams, striking the balance to represent everyone’s needs and priorities.
Over time we have drawn together elements of Origin’s visual identity and turned their brand in to three-dimensional, tactile spaces. At the British Library we blended a palette of materials that would sit within the context of the Library entrance itself yet become seamlessly Origin on the Euston Road side.
“Hart Miller Design’s work have had a huge impact,” says Grace Reith, Origin’s Head of Marketing. “We’ve had overridingly positive feedback, the cafés are performing very well, and have been instrumental in making our mark in London.”
